Preparing the BARMM Electorate for the First Ever Regional Parliamentary Elections in 2025
Published free: the link opens the whole book.
A survey report on the voters of the BARMM ahead of its first regional parliamentary elections. It profiles likely voters, how ready they are for the polls, where they get news of political parties, and the issues that drive their choices.
The Institute for Autonomy and Governance (IAG) surveyed 3,072 likely voters across the BARMM from 29 April to 14 May 2024, a year before the region's first parliamentary elections. This report sets out what they found. Its chapters profile likely voters, measure how ready they are for the polls, trace where they hear about political parties, list what voters want and why they would back a party, and close with opportunities and the survey method.
Most voters knew little about the new system. 58.4% said they knew nothing of it and 24% very little, and nearly 9 in 10 knew little about the party-list, district and sectoral seats of the 80-member parliament. Family and friends, social media and barangay officials were the main sources of news; print barely figured. Livelihood projects, education, jobs, and peace and order topped voters' concerns, well ahead of violent extremism.
The report urges COMELEC, the Bangsamoro Electoral Office and civil society to run voter education through social media, radio and local languages, using pictures and video over text.
