A veteran Cotabato journalist’s columns on the conflict and the peace talks, collected: forty years of watching from close up.
This book gives a journalist's reading of the Mindanao conflict. Much of it is made up of commentaries Patricio P. Diaz wrote for MindaNews, including on the peace negotiations from 2000 to 2003. A Kasarinlan review describes it as his critical account as a journalist and as a settler who had lived in Mindanao since the last years of American rule. Diaz himself says it is not a scholarly work.
Diaz worked for decades in Cotabato journalism. He was a columnist and later editor of the Mindanao Cross from 1952 to 1989, edited Mindanao Kris and wrote the "Comment" column for MindaNews from its start in 2001. MindaNews presents the book as an attempt to explain the roots and many sides of the conflict.
