A long account of the talks between the government and the MILF, by a veteran Cotabato journalist who followed them from the start.
Patricio P. Diaz was a veteran Cotabato journalist and a long-time commentator on Muslim autonomy. This book is his detailed account of the long and difficult peace talks between the Government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front. He wrote that he began it in October 2009 and finished in June 2011, a year later than planned.
Diaz frames the search for a political solution to the Moro problem as grounded in the Bangsamoro right to self-determination. At the launch in Davao City on 8 July 2011, he said Moro leaders had to be clear about what kind of autonomy would solve their problem, and warned that they would never attain it if they stayed divided.
MindaNews published the book. It was one of several Diaz wrote on Mindanao, after Understanding Mindanao Conflict in 2003 and The 2010 GRP-MILF Peace Drafts, written with historian Rudy Rodil.
