A Study on Christian-Muslim Relations in the Philippines
No longer sold new: look for it in a library, or for a used copy.
The conflict read as a problem of relations between Christians and Muslims, from the Silsilah Dialogue Movement in Zamboanga.
Hilario M. Gomez Jr.'s book, subtitled A Study on Christian-Muslim Relations in the Philippines, reads the Moro rebellion through the history of relations between Christians and Muslims. Library records list its main subjects as the Moro National Liberation Front, Muslim political activity in Mindanao, and the island's autonomy and independence movements. Silsilah Publications in Zamboanga City published it in 2000, in 303 pages with colour pictures, maps, a 15-page bibliography and an index.
Gomez, born in 1941, is a Protestant churchman who has worked on this subject for decades. His doctoral thesis, distributed by University Microfilms in 1977, was titled The Muslim Filipino Rebellion: Meaning and Challenges to the Mission and Ministry of the Christian Church in the Philippines. He later became a bishop of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines and, as bishop emeritus, a co-convenor with Archbishop Fernando Capalla and Aleem Aboali Cali of the Bishops-Ulama Conference, which brings Christian and Muslim religious leaders together for dialogue in Mindanao.
