Essays on what dialogue between Muslims and Christians in the Philippines has been and could be, edited by the philosopher-priest Leonardo Mercado with Maxwell Felicilda.
This short book on dialogue between Muslims and Christians in the Philippines was edited by Leonardo N. Mercado and Maxwell Felicilda. Divine Word Publications in Manila published it in 1993 as number 1 of the MMCD Papers, a series of the Movement for Muslim-Christian Dialogue. It looks at what such dialogue in the Philippines has been and what it could become. Library records file it under Muslims in the Philippines, conflict management and ethnic relations. It runs to 65 pages, with an index.
Mercado, born in Cebu in 1935 and ordained a priest of the Society of the Divine Word in Rome in 1964, is best known as a pioneer of Filipino philosophy. His Elements of Filipino Philosophy (1974) argued that such a philosophy has to be built from the shared culture and behaviour of the people. He kept working on relations between the faiths. In 1999 he co-edited, with Lilian Curaming, 100 Years of Filipino Muslim-Christian Relations for Silsilah Publications in Zamboanga City.
