A study of handwritten Qur’ans, prayer books and kitabs kept by families in Lanao, with what they show of how Islam was learned and copied in the region.
This monograph, number 10 in a series from the Institute of Asian Cultures at Sophia University in Tokyo, studies handwritten Qur'ans and other Islamic manuscripts kept in Mindanao. Midori Kawashima edited it. The contributors are Tirmizy E. Abdullah, Annabel Teh Gallop, Kawashima herself, Ervan Nurtawab and Labi Sarip Riwarung.
The chapters examine particular manuscripts from Lanao. Abdullah writes on the Qur'an of Bayang and the Qur'an of Bacong in Marantao. Riwarung writes on the Qur'an and prayer scroll of Guro sa Masiu. Library records file the book under Arabic manuscripts and Islamic illumination, the decoration of manuscripts, in Mindanao. It ends with a bibliography.
