The Bangsamoro struggle explained in Filipino for a national readership, from the sultanates to the MILF talks.
Bangsamoro sa Malapitan: Pagpupunyagi sa Sariling-Pagpapasya is Lualhati M. Abreu's account, in Filipino, of the Bangsamoro struggle for self-determination. It was edited by Bonifacio P. Ilagan and published in 2011 by the Center for People Empowerment in Governance (CenPEG), with a note by MILF peace panel chair Mohagher Iqbal.
In a review for CenPEG, E. San Juan Jr. describes the book's path. It opens with a survey of Moro ethnolinguistic groups and the Lumad, with special attention to the Iranun and Maguindanao. It then turns to the ARMM and the creation of Shariff Kabunsuan province. From there it takes up ancestral domain, which San Juan sees as the central question of the whole book and of the talks with the MILF. Abreu also criticises land reform in the ARMM, and a chapter faces the prejudice of the Filipino majority against the Moro.
San Juan notes that Abreu respects Islamic law and adat while writing from a secular, historical point of view. The book has maps and a bibliography.
